An Event to Remember…
The Bedford Playhouse is committed to providing ongoing previews of the type of programming we’ll offer once we’re open.
Recently we hosted a sold-out screening of “The Bullish Farmer”, a documentary about “John Boy” Ubaldo, at Bedford’s Historical Hall. Check out the highlights and stay tuned for more…
Construction Has Begun, Renovation Team Announced!
We are thrilled to announce that formal construction for the theater renovation has begun!
“We are very excited to get our shovels in the ground. Many dedicated people have put in an enormous amount of time and effort to get us here. There have been difficulties along the way, and I suspect there will be more to come, however after each hurdle we landed on a clearer path, with a more thoughtful design that is less expensive to build and will be more efficient to run. We can now focus on the exciting tasks: programming and our membership!” – Sarah Long, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
After an extensive planning and review process, The Playhouse has awarded contracts to a talented and experienced team of professionals:
R C Torre Construction Corporation, Bedford Hills, NY – Construction and Build Out
Darren Mercer, Katonah, NY – Architect
Danielle Galland Design, New York, NY – Interior Design
John Burkhardt, Big Show Consultant and Management, New York, NY – Owner’s Representative/Project Manager
“This is a long-awaited move for us, the culmination of a lot of effort and teamwork over the past two and a half years. It reflects our board’s belief that enough support exists in the community to allow us to open the new Playhouse and thrive once we do. We are very excited to be moving ahead,” says John Farr, Board President and Founder.

Our mission is to provide a vibrant cultural and social destination dedicated to screening the best films for discerning adults and families, as well as a community hub for social gatherings, special events, and educational programs relating to film and the arts.
A New Vision
The new, renovated Playhouse will have three theaters: One will be large, in the style of old Hollywood. But it will also be state-of-the-art, in the style of the 21st century. The other two theaters will be smaller and more intimate, but also cutting edge. They will feature first-run independent, foreign, and documentary films, as well as classics and family favorites. There will be space for small musical and theatrical performances, distinguished speakers, educational programs, movie clubs, wine tastings, and other private events. And there will be a vibrant café offering a superior selection of food, wine and spirits.
A Community Hub
The new, non-profit Playhouse won’t just exist at the center of Bedford, it will be the center of Bedford, a place where culture and community come together every day. It will draw people from near and far, bringing new life, energy and attention to the Village, while paying homage to its illustrious history.
